Aerial Video · CASA RePL Licensed

Drone videography in Melbourne.

Overview

Story first, from the air.

Professional drone videography in Melbourne for businesses, brands and creatives. Sequence led aerial footage built to cut into a film, not sit beside it as a novelty.

Low impact by default: a lightweight rig for agile, high quality work with minimal disruption or setup, scaling to Inspire class systems when the production calls for broadcast grade resolution and live coverage. One point of contact either way.

Recent work

Stills pulled from the flights.

Frames from aerial video shoots: coastline, ranges and city, plus the aircraft that flies them. Different flights to the stills page, so nothing here is shown twice.

Questions

Drone videography FAQ.

01

Are you licensed to provide drone services in Australia?

Licensing and compliance are not boxes to tick, they are the foundation of safe operations. I hold a current Remote Pilot Licence through CASA in the sub 2kg category, and carry $20 million public liability insurance as standard. For larger productions I bring in higher payload systems to match the demands of the project.

02

When will my finished videos be ready?

Most projects land within one to four weeks of the shoot, depending on complexity. Detailed sound design or motion graphics take longer to bring to a standard worth delivering. If your project has a deadline, that conversation happens at the quoting stage and becomes part of the agreement.

03

Can you provide drone videography at night?

Yes. Night operations produce some of the most striking footage available from a drone. They need CASA approvals and airspace coordination locked in ahead of the shoot, handled on my end, so reach out early for the lead time.

04

Can you shoot in 4K or higher?

The standard setup captures 4K 10 bit footage, which covers the vast majority of commercial needs at broadcast ready quality. For large format display or broadcast grade requirements I source and operate larger remote piloted aircraft systems.

05

What happens if the weather turns on the day?

If there is a workable gap in the forecast we use it. If the window is not there, we reschedule. Where a shoot has to be cancelled outright, the deposit position is set out in the booking agreement beforehand, so there are no surprises.

Brand Story Videos

Ground based brand films, where the aerial sequence is usually the opening rather than the whole piece.

Questions

The things people ask first.

Will the aerial footage cut into video we already have?

Yes, and it is worth flagging at booking. Tell me the frame rate and colour profile your existing footage uses and I will match it on the day.

Delivered at 25 or 50fps PAL as standard, graded to sit inside your edit rather than jump out of it.

How much aerial footage does a project actually need?

Less than most people expect. A ninety second brand film is usually carried by three or four aerial shots, not thirty.

Aerial works best as punctuation: the reveal that opens it, the orbit that establishes scale, the pull-back that ends it. Beyond that it starts to feel like a screensaver.

Do you fly to a shot list?

Always. The shots are planned before the battery goes in, which is the difference between footage that cuts into an edit and footage that sits in a folder.

If you already have a storyboard or an edit structure, send it. The flight plan gets built from it.

Can we get vertical versions for socials?

Yes, framed for nine by sixteen rather than cropped out of the middle of a landscape frame afterwards.

Say so at booking so the framing on the day leaves room for both. That one decision is what stops the vertical cut having the subject half out of frame.

Do you need approvals, and how long do they take?

Only where the site sits in controlled airspace, near people outside the operation, or over a populous area. Most suburban and industrial sites need nothing beyond the standard rules.

Where an approval is needed, allow a fortnight and build the shoot date around it. It is the single most common reason an aerial shoot slips.

What does it cost?

Quoted as a fixed fee against the brief. A single site visit for a few establishing shots is a very different figure to a full day across multiple locations with an edit attached.

Tell me what the footage has to prove and where it is going, and the quote comes back with the scope written beside it.

“Jordy was responsive and very flexible. He did a great job on the drone video and photos for our latest project, even providing extra shots and photos.”
