Commercial photography · Melbourne

Commercial photographer for businesses that sell on how they look.

Overview

Photographs a business can actually use.

A commercial shoot is not a portfolio exercise. The images have to work on the website, in the deck, on the socials grid and in print, at whatever size each of those demands, and they have to still look current in a year. That is what gets built into the shot list before the camera comes out.

Interiors and fitouts, hospitality venues, retail floors, teams, product and the aerial context around a site. Most briefs are two or three of those at once, which is the point of one photographer rather than three.

Based in Belgrave, so the eastern suburbs, the Dandenong Ranges and the Yarra Valley are a short run rather than a cross city trip. Melbourne metro, Mernda, the Mornington Peninsula and Geelong are all standard service area.

What gets shot

Six things a commercial brief usually needs.

01

Interiors and fitouts

Finished spaces shot to hold their lines, with the light balanced across the room rather than blown out at the windows. HDR where the contrast needs it, which is most of the time.

02

Hospitality and venues

Rooms, bars, floors and the details that carry the atmosphere, shot at the hour the room actually looks like itself. Built for booking pages and menus as much as for socials.

03

Teams and headshots

One standard across everyone, shot on site in a few minutes each so the day is not lost. New starters shot to match, so the wall stays consistent as the team turns over.

04

Product and detail

The close work that carries the craft: materials, finishes, the thing in the hand. Shot alongside the wide frames so the set reads as one shoot.

05

Aerial and site context

Licensed drone work for the frame no ladder reaches, showing the site, the surrounds and the scale of what was built.

06

Progress and record

Recurring documentation across a build or a fitout, on a set schedule, so there is a record of the work at each stage rather than one set of photos at the end.

Questions

The things people ask first.

What does a shoot cost?

Every shoot is quoted as a fixed fee up front, against the brief rather than off a rate card. Tell me what the images have to do, where they are going and when you need them, and the quote comes back with the scope written down beside it, so the number you approve is the number you pay.

What areas do you cover?

Everywhere in Melbourne. I am based in Belgrave, which puts the eastern suburbs, the Dandenong Ranges and the Yarra Valley closest, and I work across the metro area, Mernda, the Mornington Peninsula and Geelong as standard. Regional Victoria and interstate are quoted with travel.

How long does a commercial shoot take?

A single space or a small team is a half day. A full venue, a fitout across several rooms, or a team of more than about fifteen is a full day. The scope is agreed before the day so nothing gets rushed at the end of it.

How are the images delivered?

Full resolution files through Dropbox, with web sized versions alongside them so nothing has to be resized before it goes on a site or a socials post. Commercial licensing and print rights are included, and files stay hosted for three months after delivery.

Do you carry insurance and licences?

cASA licensed remote pilot, $20 million public liability and a Working With Children Check, all current. Certificates go to the venue or site before the booking is confirmed, without being chased for them.

How do I book?

Send through what the shoot is for and roughly when. We do a short call to pin down scope, then the proposal, contract and payment schedule all come through one client portal so nothing is chased over email.

Tell me what the photos have to do.

Whether it is a fitout, a venue, a team or a product line, the brief starts with where the images are going to be used. Send that through and the quote comes back scoped to it.
