Questions

Drone photography FAQ.

01

How fast can you turn around edited stills?

Standard turnaround is 5 to 7 business days for edited stills. Same day or 24 hour delivery is available for active real estate listings or time sensitive event coverage, so say so when you brief.

02

Do you have CASA approvals to fly in central Melbourne?

Yes. RePL Licence #1042904 covers commercial sub 2kg drone operations across Greater Melbourne. Controlled airspace shoots near Melbourne Airport, Essendon or the central CBD require additional CASA permission and lead time, so flag the location early.

03

Do you carry public liability insurance?

$20 million public liability is in place for every shoot. The insurance certificate is supplied to the venue, site or council on request before the booking is confirmed.

04

What about weather?

Wind under 30 km/h, no rain, reasonable visibility. If the forecast is marginal we lock in a free reschedule window before the shoot.

05

Can you cover a property outside Greater Melbourne?

Yes. Regional Victoria, the Mornington Peninsula, Yarra Valley, Gippsland and the Surf Coast are all within the standard service area. Travel beyond two hours from Belgrave is quoted with a flat regional fee.

Questions

The things people ask first.

Are you licensed and insured?

CASA Remote Pilot Licence, and $20 million public liability with a certificate of currency supplied on request.

Ask any operator you speak to for both. A lot of commercial aerial work is still flown on recreational rules, and it is the client who carries more of that risk than they realise.

How big can the photos be printed?

Large. Stills are shot in HDR brackets and graded to hold detail in the roofline and the shadow underneath it, so one file works as a tender exhibit, a web hero and a printed board.

If you know a frame is going to a specific print size, say so and it gets shot with that in mind.

Can you fly over my site in Melbourne?

Usually, with planning. The deciding factors are controlled airspace near an airport, how close the flight comes to people outside the operation, and who controls the launch point.

Send the address and I will check it against the airspace before quoting, rather than discovering a problem on the morning.

How long does an aerial shoot take?

For a single site, an hour to ninety minutes on the ground covers the flying, including setup, checks and battery changes.

Twilight work is different. That is a twenty minute window after sunset, so the whole visit is built around it and there is no second attempt on the same evening.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Rain grounds it, and so does sustained wind much above 20 knots. Heavy overcast will fly but flattens the light enough that rescheduling is often the better call.

Weather calls are made the day before wherever possible, and there is no charge for one.

Do I get the raw files?

The delivered set is graded and ready to use, in full resolution and web sizes. Raw files are available on request.

It is easier to agree that up front than after delivery, particularly where your own team intends to do the grading.
